A Visit from the Breast Cancer Comfort Foundation

NYBRA Plastic Surgery Clinical Director, Mollie Sugarman and Director of Marketing, Brittany Corstange with BCC Bags

The Breast Cancer Comfort Foundation recently paid our practice a visit to drop off some chemotherapy comfort bags! These curated collections of personal care items are designed to help and support patients who have recently undergone surgery for breast cancer. The comfort bags aim to show those in treatment for breast cancer that they are not alone, to reassure them through community, and to inspire them to recognize their own inner strength.

The Breast Cancer Comfort Foundation was created by Deborah Cavolo in 2015 with a dual mission to provide anyone undergoing breast surgery—for treatment or to reduce risk—with practical comfort and emotional support. Her contributions to the breast cancer community have been steadfast over the past seven years. NYBRA honored Deborah for her work during a past Uplifting Event.

Baskets and bags contain items like lip balm, journals, coloring books (to keep busy during chemotherapy) and more. The bags in BCC’s most recent delivery included these at no cost to our patients. To date, they have donated over two thousand comfort baskets and bags throughout our community, to major hospitals and continue to extend their outreach.

“The Breast Cancer Comfort Foundation’s generosity to our patients, practice and community is truly inspiring and uplifting.  It is our privilege to support their mission, as they support our patients during their curative and preventative breast cancer treatment in a unique, holistic approach,” Nicole Pioli, Medical Assistant at NYBRA said.

We were so grateful for the bags and the visit, as the tenants of community and inner resilience are also central to NYBRA’s philosophy as a practice. BCC’s contribution serves as a reminder to our patients and their families, they are not alone. You can learn more about the organization, including how to contribute or volunteer,
